Matty John's new program on Ch 7

I watched the first hour of it.

Thought there were a few decent bits in there, some 'classic' Footy Show, etc. But there was also a lot of cringeworthy stuff, such as that Daryl Brohman physical workout thing or whatever it was. I like the 'big marn', but that was horrid.

Back in the day, they combined humour with some really good interviews and talk about the game. There's too many crass jokes nowadays.

I also agree with Rocky about Dell. I love the fella, but he definitely overdid it.

I saw and ad for the new show last night it seems one of his characters will be a Don Burke type..

It looked pathetic, if that is what is being served up by "The Matty Johns Show" - I can't believe it's going to be called that - then it will last about as long as The White Room did.

Anyone remember The Hard Yards? It was a rugby league show on Channel 7 in 1995 that was hosted by Terry Hansen (who's a breakfast presenter on 97.3fm radio in Brissie now). They had Alf from Home and Away on it as a panelist.

LOLZ...it got axed after 3 weeks I think.

If the Matty Johns show lasts that long I think it'll be an injustice.

[icon_lol1. [icon_lol1. [icon_lol1. You serious? Why???

Ray Meagher used to play rugby union...and as far as seven was concerned, Union = League, so he could offer expert comments. LOL

What happened to Warren from the NRL on Fox show...they finally get sick of him or is he out of sight voluntarily ??...Matty Johns as a show host will be ugly. It seems as though the only really good rl style show will continue to be the NRL on Fox version although the early Sunday morning shows are still worth a look.

Warren Smith is still commentating on Fox. He hasn't been hosting the NRL on Fox show for a while.

Are you flaming serious?

It looked like rubbish to me.. That is Matthew Johns form of humour though so it'll be more variety show than footy show which is the problem.

Same old rubbish.

Won't be watching either show by the looks of it.

This show will be painful to watch.

I think I would rather rip my own teeth out with pliers, then watch it.

I'm not usually a grammar nazi but that comment made me laugh. Makes it sound like you're a bit of a masochist [icon_lol1.

I thought the whole point of this new show was that it would be all about the footy?

Yeah that's what I thought when I first heard about it (thought it was going to set Ch 7 up to make a real attack on Ch 9's FTA monopoly of the footy when TV rights are next negotiated). But I think I am going to be very very disappointed if I even bother to watch the show. The fact they are calling it "The Matty Johns Show" with no reference to footy at all really tells me it is not about the footy.

Might be tough for them to get NRL footage after all:

Perhaps the show's biggest challenge will be that it airs on a rival network to the holder of the NRL rights. And if we believe even a fraction of what we read, Nine's hostility to NRL boss David Gallop's publicly stated support for The Matty Johns Show means it will apply a heavy legal hand to the use of footage and access to players.

Channel 7 buy it for the news, so they'll give it to the show now doubt.

And the players can do whatever they want in an unoffical NRL role.

Two words. CGI and stick figures.
