You forget just how fast Kemp was.

Another thought: Hodges at the end of this season and last, seems to be doing what Karmichael Hunt did for us back then - adding quality ball playing wider of the ruck and a killer cut out pass.

To me, this game showed how you limit the impact Taylor can have on a game.

I remember Henry moved O'Donnell out wide to try and limit his impact and it worked. They got numbers in the tackles and he wasn't able to do what he was doing best at the back end of that season.

There was some great defense in that game. Quite a few try savers and some good scrambling defense. A bit controversial considering Broncos scored a try from a forward pass and a knock on.

And Lockyer blowing up at the end of the game. It's not a sight people saw too often..

I thought the errors were one of the biggest killers for the Broncos in this game.

Despite their poor defense, they still had patches in that game where they were able to swing momentum their way. They had Cowboys on the ropes quite a few times, especially at the start of the second half. But they just kept coming up with errors and it hurt them bad. They would let Cowboys off the hook and then Cowboys would slice them apart. Hunt didn't have a great day with the ball, he came up with quite a few errors that hurt the Broncos.
 
The Cowboys speed around the ruck absolutely killed us in that game.
 
What a disappointing afternoon that was.

After making so many staff changes in the off-season and making all the right noises, the Broncos dished up one of the worst ever performances I'd seen at Suncorp. With the exception of Hodges, Hannant and possibly Michael Ennis - there wasn't a lot to enjoy about that game and I truly feared that the end of the Broncos run as one of the top teams had come to a halt.

The gruelling pre-season, the lack of preperation for Lockyer and the silly decision to start with Perry & McGuire hurt the Broncos enabled the Cowboys to play the exact game they wanted too, and if there was any ever doubt, they'd target Lockyer who was dreadful. So much so, it led to Warren Smith writing a piece in Big League magazine, knocking the champion five eighth, exposing him as somebody who was desperate to be controversial in a rag that is about as sharp as a piece of rubber.

Wow what a classy side that was on and especially off the field *cough* such names as Craig Field, John Hopoate and now Matt Seers joining the list of fine role models.
 
This is not Broncos, but I decided to upload this game. I was watching it last night and it's a great game.

Youtube kind of ruined the quality a bit, though.

I think that game just shows why you never write Manly off in a game. They will almost always find a way to comeback.

Panthers had the perfect start to that game, scoring 2 tries in the first 10 minutes. They were gaining good field position from their go forward and their determination in defense. Pritchard was having a blinder.

Manly scored a try in the first half to get themselves back into it, but whatever momentum they gained, they lost due to errors and poor 5th tackle kicks. I think the Panthers defense was frustrating them.

Second half came along and the start of it was just a repeat of the first. Panthers were well on top and looked like they had the game won at 26-6... Then Wesser drops the ball from a kick off and Manly take advantage of the great field position and score. After that, Manly just completely blew Panthers off the park.

It was a great turnaround, a great comeback and a great game of footy.

I'll have to give it a watch later tonight, SF.

This is still my favourite thread on the entire board. The R25 09 game popped up on my feed and I decided to click in. I forgot how entertaining, bizarre and controversial it was all at the same time. My only memory was Yow Yeh scoring one of the best individual tries for us in sometime and the close finish where the ball bounced just the right way for us.

Seeing the ball come off the cross-bar three times, the charge-down/intercept passage for Tonga to score, the two suss Broncos tries brought the game to another level.

I'd consider it an honorable mention for penny's list. Especially when you consider how much the match meant to somebody like Lockyer.

I bet Ben Ikin felt like he was home on the Gold Coast with all that sand on the field. That playing surface is pathetic to say the least. I've reviewed that game we were quite lucky to escape with a draw.

2000 was an odd year in the sense that the competition started a month earlier (to avoid the Olympics), there were unlimited interchanges and teams could name up to 5 players off the bench.

It's a shame the year is sort of written off as 'Broncos won, the other teams sucked - move on'. At the time, it seemed like there was more to it than that.

I thought Broncos were extremely lucky.

It was the 4th tackle when Nable went for the grubber instead of setting up for the field goal. The outside backs didn't even know what he was going to do, there was no one chasing it.

I couldn't believe it. A huge let off for the Broncos.

Wests were lucky to receive the opportunity in the first place since the pass looked flat to Berro.

Plenty worse were let go for both sides.
