Overhaul of referees in off season

What's the point. They will do a bullshit blueprint, it will have a load of garbage that still get enforced more than it should, and real shit not being enforced.

Add the judiciary and we will still see grubs getting off for spear tackles.

I don't see the point. Just go back to the RLIF one ref system. It had many flaws, but at least they weren't as fucking useless as they all are now.
 
Just no more mid season rule changes please.

As for the actual overhaul, why not build a real bunker, under the field, and replace the trylines with transparent plexiglass. That way the refereeing team of 40 can look up in the middle of the ruck and see if the ball's on the line or not.

Or, paint the lines red right before kickoff, so the paint's still wet. Then if there's a shitload of red paint on the ball, we'll know that it was on the ground.

Would most agree the various TV commentators get it right.....?

I like the way Sterlo and Gould approach some of the rulings with a good dose of common sense when they are reviewing the replays.

I think they get it right more often than the current shunts like Luke Patten do.

Rugby League needs to adopt a common law approach where they default to a 'judge made' decision on particular situations that were universally agreed with.

As for commentators being made video referees.

Hell no.

Gould in particular doesn't know the rules. His interpretation depends on his mood and you can't allow emotion to dictate your ability to make a decision.
 
On a less tasty note, I seem to recall something like this happening every year. We're gonna change the way the refereeing is done, it'll be better bla bla bla. And of course, it just gets worse each and every time.
