I thought Parra were sure things today against the dogs - I had them on a multi to win $100 but they got embarrassed. Seriously Dragons + Eels are the biggest underachievers of late (pre-Bennett).

Can't believe they can't score points - reckon its Micahel hagans crappy work passed on down?

Hindmarsh is the backbone of the Eels, without his go forward and defense they were never a chance.

Looking like a battle between the Sharks and Eels for the spoon, atleast the Eels look like they can score a few points. eusa_think

the eels have been garbage all year, add to that the loss of finch.. why would get on them????

Interesting how my reading of the stats for Dogs & Eels showed no striking differences. Maybe I missed something?

So maybe “stats†don't really mean much of themselves & really, what's critical is that “thIng†- enthusiasm, passion & commitment. The Eels certainly didn't have much.

In any case, I still reckon it's too early to write off any team as “easybeats†at this point in the season.

Seriously Parramatta is just displaying the symptoms of a post-Michael Hagan era. When Brian Smith first took over Newcastle everyone was appalled by the way he made wholesale changes to the playing roster, turfed guys like Perry, Newton etc out of the club.

It was because Hagan has a habit of letting the idiots (the players) run the asylum. His modus operandi has always been that the players need to be happy and comfortable to play, and so he gives them free reign. The result is they get complacent about their positions, the game plan etc, it's all up to them.

Smith had to talk tough, get rid of the guys most resistant to change and start building. Result? They made the finals in his 2nd year there and this year they look bloody good IMO.

Daniel Anderson is going to have to go through a similar process at Parramatta. The players have a shit attitude, they will be resistant to much of what Anderson wants to achieve, and so 2009 will be a write off for them. He'll need to make tough decisions (and he already has with Finch) and smart recruiting and start building towards 2010.

That's not to say the Eels will always be easybeats. It won't surprise in the least if they give the Broncos a massive run for their money this Friday. They're still capable of turning on a good performance.

But I hope Newcastle 2007 and Parramatta 2009 shows all and sundry that if Michael Hagan comes knocking on your door to coach your club, put the double latch lock on. Not by the hair on your chinny chin chin!

Once again I agree with Rock and Coxy, pretty much on the money.

Does anyone else think Hayne looks lazy and disinterested?

Well Gould told us 3 times that his forward pass to Luke Burt was "lazy". But yes, I do agree, he doesn't give a shit.

If I was Anderson I'd be putting him on notice...shape up or it's release time.

I watched the first 20 minutes yesterday then turned it off So I didn't see his forward pass or gould's comments. But whenever the camera is on him he looks like he doesn't want to be there, or that all the hard work he did in his first season is all he needs to do. Like it should just be falling into his lap. You compare him to Inglis and Folau who had similar first seasons, they look interested and try and make things happen. Hayne not so much.

Who would you put at fullback for them? Inu?

Inu
Hayne
Smith
Burt
Reddy

???

The Parra fans booed him a couple of weeks ago for his less than enthusiastic running every time he got the ball. He looks like he's gained weight and he also seems to have the attitude that all he has to do is turn up. If he wants to be closer to the action (which is pretty much what he's whinged about throughout his career thus far) then he needs to start looking like he wants to be there and at least put in. At the moment, he doesn't even appear to be putting in 20%. Whilst I acknowledge that playing in a new position and now without an established halves partner beside him would be difficult, I don't think anyone is expecting miracles from him (well, apart from the deluded Parra fans that is...) and he needs to at least look like he's willing to give things a try if he and Anderson are going to persist with him at 5/8. Otherwise, back where you belong on the wing Hayne.

I thought Hayne looked good at fullback a few seasons ago (when they trounced us in 07).

Burt that cat, did anyone see him pull out of that tackle on Josh Morris? He should be drawn and quartered for that!

I HATE HATE HATE when wingers whinge that they want to be more involved.

FFS. Look at El Masri and Chris Walker for example. El Masri will often take a run mid field, and not just on the first couple of plays after a kick return. He'll get in there looking for work.

Walker on a few occasions on Friday night was sniffing around Prince looking for an inside pass, and as they pointed out, that was like he played at the Broncos. Many times he'd make a break up the middle of the field in running off a pass from Ikin, Walters, Lockyer or someone.

No good without decent halves though. Robson is shit. Who would play five-eighth? Keating? LOLZ.

everyone keeps talking about this so called "star studded backline" but seriously, who are the stars?

Inu? I'm yet to see him recapture his first season form, likewise with Hayne. Burt is an average fullback, and Grothe & Smith are hardly super star material.

Parramatta's backline is so over-rated it's not funny.

Star studded by comparison to quite a few other clubs though.

Souths
Capewell - who?
Merritt - good finisher, but hardly a star
Champion - meh
Best - past it
Talanoa - meh

Gold Coast
Campbell - small star
Gordon - rookie
Tonga - rookie
Delaney - solid
Walker - past star trying to work back to form

Bulldogs
Patten - solid
El Masri - goalkicker, nothing else
Morris - potential star
Millard - average
Goodwin - potential star

Those are 3 of the top 8 teams.

Inu, Hayne, Smith, Burt, Reddy/Grothe would match any of them.

The difference is:
Souths: Sandow, Sutton
Bulldogs: Kimmorley, Roberts
Titans: Prince, Rogers

Quality halves.

Yeah but look at these teams back lines:
Broncos - Hunt, Hodges, Folau etc
St George - Sailor, Boyd, Hornby
Warriors - Vatuvei, Tate, Kemp, McKinnon, Hohaia
Cowboys - Bowen, Graham, hmmm ok...It's the halves that win this one
Storm - Inglis, Slater, Quinn
Sea Eagles - Stewart, Lyon, Wolfman

That's 5 teams with better backs than Parra have to offer. They're a mid-class back line, not a star-studded super team.
