I thought I'd start a thread where we can keep the players list and their contracts up to date (with contract value if available).
I've put the players last year of contract in red if it's the current season.
This is the most current information I have compiled from several sources. If anyone has more info, post it and I (or the mods hopefully) will update the list:

Beale, Glenn, McCullough and Yow Yeh and to a lesser extent Te'o are priorities.

Rest will have to prove themselves, especially Wallace given the coin he is on.

Awesome work Porthoz.

Disagree with Te'o, I find him to be on the lower scale of importance when it comes to player retainments especially compared to the importance for the side of an experienced halfback/5/8th in Wallace over the extreme depth shown in the secondrow position where both Gillett and Te'o are both on the bench you can afford cutbacks of a player like Te'o to keep the whole if it came to that and there are also quality forwards coming up through the under 20's. I also question his value as a recruit, his had one good season, one meh season and one season clouded with injuries, if anyone has to prove their worth its Te'o.

I don't find it harsh when you have the depth of Reed, Glenn, Thaiday, Parker, Gillett before you even start to look at the lower grades if it came to that, I would like to keep Te'o but personally of those I have named I find if the need came to maintain the bulk of the side, I would be willing to let him go out of those I have named.

Yeah agree with GC. Te'o on his day is awesome but with such depth he'll need to really step up.

Hence why I went with to a lesser extent. I just couldn't look pass his talent and think when fit, he's a very good backrow who's got more improvement in him and I feel as if he won't cost us the bank to keep. Wallace on the other hand, probably will as we're paying him to stay away from his family and really, what you see is what you get. Don't get me wrong, I've been content with his contributions but I feel as if we've got the halves to cover for him.

That value p/year column will usually be in accurate, because unless you are Broncos management, NRL management a player agent or the player themselves there is no way to tell what their actual contract is worth. I would NEVER believe what the media say a player is getting.

Problem is Big Pete with the depth we do have at the club, these players will be asking for increases next time off contract and they are hitting rep football(Glenn, Gillett, Reed etc), even if Te'o isn't on a lot the money will have to come from somewhere and thats where I can see it coming from if the needs comes to that. Te'o has had mixed seasons so far at the club, his had a season where he was sub par at best, his had a season where I thought he was really starting to step up and then to bring more doubt into the picture his had a season plagued with injuries and thats concerning and though I'm prepared to give him 2012 to prove his worth to the side in the longterm, he could easily be replaced by one of the forwards I have mentioned or one of the forwards coming up through the ranks and while I doubt his on a fortune at present he would still be on a considerable amount for what he has so far provided and if another club was to show interest in him or he wanted a new start that would see a considerable increase. I've seen players at about the same level let go by the club and I've even seen better players like Gillmeister because of the salary cap limitations let go for the best interests of the side as a whole and thats when the club has been at its strongest, when it makes those tough decisions. Bottomline is if Te'o was to get a release or retire the forwards would move on, we barely even noticed him not being there this season when he was injured based on the performances of who was there.

As for Wallace he has shown real improvement in 2011 after a really disappointing effort in 2010 but his importance to the club at present is higher IMO. The difference is I have seen Wallace provide more in his first and this season at the club then I have from Te'o(I'll grant the injuries Te'o had didn't help) and given the departure of our most experience playmaker in Lockyer. That leaves Wallace as our only proven playmaker at the NRL level(outside of McCollough but he stays at hooker) the rest are players who are at best players who have had a taste of first grade but not really held that position for any great length in the NRL or play games off the bench in a utility position and are looking to get a chance in 2012 and I'm happy to gamble on one of these players to partner with Wallace in the halves, but suggesting to cut Wallace outright after his off contract and then put such pressure on a halves combination that would be unproven is a much bigger risk to the side as a whole then it would be letting go one backrower who can easily be replaced then compared to an experienced proven playmaker.

Hope it doesn't come to this, but we will be facing a tough prospect of retaining the squad we do have and you got to be realistic in situations like this, you can't afford to overbulk in positions where you really have the depth to more then cover the loss of one player and then have other positions pay the price for doing so. It all comes down to getting the right balance in your side.

And I don't think we should spend a lot of money on one player when really he isn't that great to begin with and could cost us a number of players to retain in front of another who won't be on a lot of cash and has more potential to be a better player. Don't get me wrong, I see your point and I agree that it will depend on how both will perform in 2012.

And didn't you hear? There's no god damn way Jack Reed is going to be a backrow.

The priority order to me would be:

- Glenn (keeps getting better and is undoubtedly a future captain)
- Yow Yeh (like Glenn, keeps getting better and is a weapon in the backline)
- McCullough (if he maintains the level displayed in the second half of 2011)
- Wallace (he may not be flashy, but is our best halve atm)
- Norman or Hunt (whoever wins the battle for the vacant halve spot)
- Te'o (undoubtedly one of the best backrowers at the club, streets ahead of anyone coming through the ranks. Let's not forget he's only 24!)
- Hunt, Norman or Capewell (because we need to have backup for the halves, if one of them goes down)
- Hala (depends whether or not he progresses to be the player we all hope he'll become)
- Beale (because despite being a quality player, he doesn't really excel in any position bar FB, where he's covered by Hoffman and potentially Gagai)
- Dodds (like someone said, too good for the Qcup, but just not enough for the NRL, particularly the Broncos)
- Capewell, Hunt or Norman (whoever is left from the battle of the playmakers)

This list may be turned upside down halfway down 2012 thoough... :haha:

I agree that Te'o is on the lower scale if importance but think he is a bloody good player who gives our side plenty of flexibility.. Hope we keep him. Dodds is a strange one, clearly one of Ivan's pets but has the talent just yet to put it all together.. Still young so hopefully we can keep for the future.

IMO Glenn and Wallace are by far the most important retentions. Yow Yeh not too far behind.

Glenn seems to be one of the few coming through with a level head. Our culture went pear-shaped for a few years there and it's only begun to repair itself - Alex seems to be an extremely important part of this process. He is also one of our most consistent performers.

Wallace is our most experienced half, his importance to the team is immeasurable in 1 AL. When injury free he has shown himself to be a quality performer.

The rest I can give or take, that is of course dependent on whether we re-sign those top three.

Good thread, perhaps contract values could be updated with references. Multiple sources would be good, might give us some sort of ballpark average of what the players would be on.

Wallace worries me. He's a good, steady player, but he's not going to win you a game. We need a halves partner with some x-factor. Not saying we shouldn't retain Wallace, but if he's our long term halfback, we need a quality attacking five-eighth alongside him.

I wouldn't have a problem dropping Wallace, as long as we got someone better for the position, and there lies the main problem.
Good halves are as rare as hens teeth in the NRL. And the ones I would take over Wallace: Thurston, Cronk, DCE, Maloney, Johnson... are tough to get!

But even then, they'd still need a good partner!

I wouldn't take Maloney over Wallace, I think he's on par with Wallace all things considered and it'd be a shame to see us chase after a player of similar ability then stick loyal to somebody who's put his body on the line for us for 3 going on 4 years now.

I would definitely consider Barnes though. As concerned I am about a players making that transition back from another code and the amount of money it would take to do so, Barnes is a Brisbane junior who left on good terms and achieved just about all he will achieve in Union. Big talent and I think his signing would be fantastic on and off the field.

Also rumours keep circulating about Dave Taylor returning to Brisbane in 2013. We've already discussed here that our backrow is over-stocked but would you say no to a talent like Dave Taylor? Especially one that is largely untapped?
