we HAVE to go after thurston. he is the only possible replacement for a retired lockyer.

Nup. He'd be overpaid like folau.

That's cool but you are the only person in the universe who thinks he's overrated etc. Remember that.

Well here comes the argument of overpaid in relevance to the salary cap again.

NO ONE is worth 700k as far as I'm concerned.

It's crazy how players are paid more than 400k now, it just means someone is going to be short changed or you are going to lose some quality players. It's a short term fix. I wouldn't do it. I guess players are really demanding now so 500k including all those third party crapola would be on the mark for someone like Thurston but geez... players have to understand to be in a premiership winning team you have to get paid significantly less than market value = FACT.

Unless Cowboys make some signings I don't think they can win the comp. Payne/Bowen/Thurston on any given day maybe - but too much reliance on it on GF day.

Lolz at the thought that michaels will defend better with thurston. He's nearly as big a turnstile as lockyer. He's not worth 700k end of story. Wouldn't pay him more than 400.

coxy i just meant as more a confidence thing, michaels hasnt always been as bad as he has been of late. and i agree that we should never pay 700k for any player.

Wallace is a much better defender than Thurston anyway... Michaels needs to harden up he chould be confident he has been playing in the first grade side for 10 rouns more than he should have.

The great thing about Thurston, Prince and Kimmorley is they attack the line with speed. They often swap sides of the ruck to target a slow retreating defender and slip an inside ball or expand the play.
We are too slow and don't change the point of attack, therefore defenders know who they are targetting.

Have i said we are a dumb team before?

Pretty sure you said it in 2006 somewhere...

Snap! Lolz!

Although i said it then too. Let's be fair, the broncos were shit for about 6 weeks and it looked like 2005 all over again. Kudos to bennett and benton.

That would all be different if we had a coach from NSW....... you know, they all have good footy brains down there. [icon_razz1

Ben Ross is no guarantee of staying at the Sharks next year. Geyer (on the roast) also brought up that he thought Clinton wanted to return to Penrith.

I really don't think Ross would be any good for the Broncos he isn't really a quality prop he is always injured... I got an idea Clinton for Petro I can live with that.

I think Ross would be very good. He would likely come for cheap and if he wasn't injured much he could give us a solid-good experienced prop week in week out something we are badly lacking.

We are dreaming if we think we can get Thurston, they will sack Neil Henry before they let go Thurston. That would be great though ,then we could try to sign a real coach

What would have made them so sure they could keep Hunt? Esp with Locky off contract as well? really puzzling stuff!!!
To be fair, they probably weren't expecting Karmichael Hunt to price himself to be the single highest paid player in the NRL, which is what he did.

Should we not have sat down with him at the time though? He doesn't have to be off contract before agreeing to new terms.

Do you know for a fact that we didn't?

No, but going by what the reports said, I'd say it's unlikely that we did.

I love the idea of thurston playing for us, letting hunt go and playing a team like this would be a good chance for 2010 and 2011,

1.Hoffman
2. Copley
3. Michaels (he should be pretty confident defending with JT)
4. Hodges
5. Falaou
6. Lockyer
7. Thurston
8. Kenny
9. McCullough
10. Clinton
11. Thiaday
12. Te'o
13. Parker

14. Gorrell
15. McGuire
16. Sims
17. Glenn

Even put Winterstein in for Copley and move copley to the centres if he bulks up a bit over the offseason, although i havent seen enough of him to know if that a good idea or not.

Im sorry but that team is horrible.
