I don't think Brisbane as such needs another team, but I would like to see another one in QLD be it the Switch or CQ

Well an Ipswich side is SEQ which is where another team is needed. Suncorp deserves a game every weekend.

Why? So it can become a faceless multi-home venue without any real aura about it, like ANZ Stadium in Sydney?

Aye. Another team in Brisbane would be a disaster IMO.

Don't fix something that isn't broken.

Why would it be a disaster?? Who said anyone was trying to fix anything??? If anything needs fixing it is Sydney teams gone replaced by more teams in QLD[/quote:1z075le8]

If Sydney teams go though, why do they automatically need to be replaced by teams north of the border? It is well known that the Sydney market is overcrowded, so why create the same problems up here?

I don't think having a second Brisbane team would be overcrowding at all.

However, I do believe there are better options out there. Let's get a team in WA before we consider another Brisbane team.

Or hell, let's further stabalize the NRL and improve the quality. 2011 is looking really promising, let's see how the season ends up before we introduce anymore sides.

1 or even 2 more QLD teams would not be over crowded IMO. 5 teams in QLD would be ideal. 3 in SEQ and CQ and NQ. Perfect

At this point I think it would. Currently the Broncos average 30,000 per home game which is a damn good effort, but would we expect that same average for a second team? I wouldn't. Don't forget the Titans are just down the road and are really only just starting to make decent inroads as far as consistent good crowd figures are concerned, and credit to them for that.

eusa_think Call me a cynic, but this smacks of Wayne Bennett.
I know many see him as a Father Theresa type, but I believe he has a huge insecurity quotient.

He will never return to the Broncos and I believe he secretly would enjoy to see them fail because he would like to be seen/ remembered as the reason for their success.

His links with he Thoroghbreds and this Davison character make perfect sense.
It would be interesting to get Wayne's opinion... I'm sure he would say the team should be located in Brisbane.

Maybe he will coach them.

Also - the corporate sponsorship dollar in SEQ is already stretched to almost breaking point. There simply is not enough corporate money in the SEQ - it is already supporting: Broncos, Lions, Reds, Roar, Titans, Bulls, Suns, Bandits, Firebirds, Gold Coast United, Gold Coast Blaze and a very real chance of the Bullets coming back to life. A number of those teams are already struggling to attract/retain a share of the SEQ corporate dollar. Despite this new team having the backing of one very high profile wealthy person the reality is that corporate support for a new team would be to the loss of the Broncos and Titans primarily and those other sports as well and would put many of them (possibly even us) in a very tenuous financial position.

I don't think Brisbane should have a second NRL team...yet. We don't have the population yet, so I don't think it would be financially viable.

From a Broncos fan point of view, I think it will be a crappy thing for us as there would be turncoats that would ditch the Broncos and go for the new team.

Expansion, if it is needed at all, should be into areas that do not have a current team. Debate all you like whether that new area should be a strong league area like the central coast or a new market like Perth or Adelaide to make it an actual national comp. I see the benefits of both and don't have a problem with either (although I would prefer to see Sydney teams relocated rather than the comp expanded)

What I cannot understand for the life of me, is putting another team in an area that already has one, while other areas have nothing. Why on earth would you put a second team in Brisbane when central coast etc. have nothing?

Even then I'm not saying don't put a second team in Brisbane ever, just give a team to an area without one first

If you're suggesting you think Wayne might coach a new Brisbane team, he has already very publically stated he does not believe a 2nd Brisbane team is good for the game and has ruled out being the coach if it does come into existence.

FWIW, if he does leave the Dragons my money is on him going to Souths or Cowboys; or a possible return to the Broncos if he can't come to terms with either of those 2. But that is all a discussion of another thread topic.

Wayne returning to the Broncos would be a mistake by the Broncos...

We don't want to hurt the Broncos, and we want to work with the Broncos, but we'll launch ourselves under the heading of the "Battle for Brisbane".

Riiiight.

FOAD.

Having a second team out of Suncorp Stadium is a farking joke. And I'm not just saying this as a parochial broncos supporter, but as someone with common sense.

It's not creating any more revenue - it's robbing from peter to pay paul so to speak. Doesn't make any business sense at all.

Exactly. It's assuming a) there are at least 30000 people in Brisbane who will pay to see a non-Broncos Brisbane team that aren't going to Broncos games, or also go to Broncos games and will pay for both.

Which is just utter bollocks.

The only way I can see a 2nd Brisbane team playing out of Suncorp Stadium is if there were double headers every two weeks (or at least for the majority of home games). Brisbane families cannot afford to attend the footy every week. I'm pretty sure if there were two Brisbane teams playing out of Suncorp Stadium every two weeks the place would be a full-house every home game.
