THE Cronulla Sharks have been fined $1 million and Shane Flanagan has been suspended for 12 months over the ASADA scandal.FOLLOW THE LIVE STREAM OF THE NRL'S 12.30PM AEDT PRESS CONFERENCE ABOVE
NRL CEO Dave Smith phoned the club this morning to officially hand down the punishment. The NRL will announce the penalties in a press release this afternoon.
Flanagan will have to sit out the entire 2014 season, but Cronulla officials have vowed to stand by him for the following year.
There is speculation the club's former halfback Brett Kimmorley will be appointed as coach for season 2014 to replace Flanagan.
Kimmorley has coached in the lower grades at the Bulldogs and the Canberra Raiders in recent years and lives in the shire.

They'll be fine, player bans are a different story though.

Player bans will be the result of the ASADA investigation, who knows when that will wrap up.

If you commit a crime you pay the price still wish these ASDA shits would go away. I couldn't give a damn about fat Feds from Canberra never cared for there bullshit.

Kimmorley to coach?

Perth Sharks reeks too much of Cronulla.

I'd just get rid of the Sharks liscence altogether and give it to a brand new franchise, preferably not from Queensland or New South Wales.

Yeah I'd much rather see a Perth side start afresh then a relocated franchise, particularly one that has delivered little in it's existence and tainted with controversy.

Perth already have a bid of their own called the West Coast Pirates. The Sharks won't be relocated to Perth.

Aye, but there's been word that the Sharks franchise will be relocated and I'm sure WA would consider that option. Personally, I think it's silly and that we should be doing our best to build a successful franchise out west.

Will be interesting to hear what becomes of the players, worth remembering that a lot of these players have left the club, including Stewart Mills who is apart of the Broncos squad.

Too soft a penalty IMO.

I still think Perth Sharks has a great sound to it.

I remember reading an article that said under NRL rules, a fine of $1 million is the maximum that can be handed out to a club ...

Didn't Melbourne cop a $2 million fine?
