State of Origin 2022

LOL @freddy putting wighton at centre blokes fkn high
Wighton has played there before at Origin level. He's a good player and has been outstanding as of late. Plus he can cover in the halves if need be. Pretty handy guy to have around.

Should’ve picked Oates on the left if you’re committed to Coates on the right. Cobbo can still be in the squad
Oates is too slow for Origin level these days. Not a noted defender either. Billy made the right call here.

Why? He is there best left centre available. Has performed at origin, and is playing well in the NRL. This was a great call by Freddie.

I think the team is pretty well spot on, Billy is off to a good start imo. The bench looks great i’m looking forward to watching all 4 of them in action, if we can stay in the game they can swing it our way.

I don't know what it is but I'm just not fully sold on Cotter and Nanai. I think a large reason for that is I'm not fully sold on the cows yet.
Nanai is too green.

Cotter will be fine. If you watched him from their Eels game onward he has been a fucking beast. Huge motor and tackles anything that moves.

I like how Slater said he knew from the first set of last years series we were off.

Whatever the **** Paul Green did - if we do the opposite we'll be fine.

Slater's worth ethic is unbelievable, if Queensland don't win the series it won't be because Slater didn't plan. He's met with every Queensland eligible player and he's watches every NRL game every week. He's a planning nut.

I hope he doesn't fall into the Bellamy trap of trying to plan an Origin win like you can plan a club win.

There's no excuses this year. This is a very winnable series if we play to our potential.

Slater is very highly rated among the Rugby League community. We'll see if he can get this side performing the way it should.

What I like about the Maroons side is that they're not going to die wondering. They've brought in the most talented players who have performed this season and there's a clear intent to play attacking football.

Love the selection of Cotter at 13. I was worried that Billy would second guess himself and have Reuben come off the bench since he's a debutant. You have to coach what you know and in Cotter he has that Melbourne Storm style 13. He's that Johnson, Hinchcliffe, Lowrie type player and he's been a key part of the Cowboys revival this season.

One player not a lot of the experts had in their 17 was Lindsay Collins. I've been a fan of his since talanoa pointed him out to me before he came into 20s and I just like that Billy has opted for a different style of forward on his bench. Carrigan, Arrow and Fotuaika are all fairly similar high work-rate players so opting for somebody who is just ultra aggressive always on the front foot like Collins would be my preference as well.

I'm really looking forward to watching what they can come up with. I expect a lot of attacking kicks from the Maroons. I also expect Grant to be a key part of this team despite starting from the bench.

Hopefully he won’t kick chairs as well

I am giving QLD a really good chance this series. With Turbo and Mitchell missing for the Blues, if they can jag a win over in Perth, I think that is series done and dusted right there.

Stating the obvious, but a lot hinges on DCE. IMO, I thought he looked like he hit the rep wall last year. Was largely ineffective. PAPA LEE E too for that matter.

DCE's not been that good for Manly either tbh, so it's a concern. I know he's captain but if he really shits the bed, Hunt to 7 and Grant to 9 I suppose.

I watched the little compilation the women’s Qld team put out when they had Billy there helping at camp. The guy certainly knows how to be a coach.

It’s crazy to think that this isnt the bare minimum of origin coaching Staff:

The only two who really shouldn’t be there are Coates and Kaufusi but they play for Melbourne so was always going to happen. I hope Ponga and Cobbs are willing to somehow lift their run metres to compensate for that Melbourne pillow.
