Steve Michaels

Honestly wish him all the best - but he wouldn't make my 17. In today's game you need talented centres IMO. He doesn't cut that standard IMO. Next year we're going to have HODGES/INGLIS... that is the sort of calibre I would want in my 17.

Is there a more improved player in the NRL this season?

Benny Te'o??

Can see what you're saying there mate - only Michaels was absolute rock bottom last year so I'd have him just in front [icon_wink

The Titans are good at picking up scraps. Look at Clinton Toopi. Great buy earlier in the year. Providing some good awesomeness.

saying that michaels is the most improved player means nothing, like others have said. when youre as rubbish as he was for the last 18 months, only letting in 3 tries in a match now is an improvement.

hes been playing 'ok' with the titans. he hasnt done anything great, and nothing that would put him even in the top 20 starting centres in the game at the moment.

most improved? definitely not. improved? for sure. but hes still got a LONG way to go before hes anything other than an average to below average player.

It must kill you to be wrong AP.

Michaels was made to look bad playing for the Broncos because he was so often facing a 3 on 2 with his winger on the left. He still tackels poorly one on one and gets brushed off too easily for a centre IMO. Doing well for the Titans though so I wish him well and hope he keeps going. He needed the change he just had nothing over the last 3 years at the Broncos.

i agree he is the most improved in the nrl. He would only have to make 1 tackle all f*#k'n season to be the most improved!!!!!!!!!!!!

Because he hasnt been able to make 1 for 2 f*#k'n years!!!!!!!!!

What are you trying to say here?

I do find it a little concerning that our coaching staff weren't able to address whatever the issue was with Michaels in the 18 months that they had to do so. Then he goes to the Titans and within a couple of months he looks settled in First Grade and looks to be somewhere near where he was when we re-signed him. What does this say about our coaching staff?

I don't think it was a coaching issue so much as a mental issue. Michaels just played with ZERO confidence at the Broncos...whether that was a hangover from his injury or what.

New club, new start, no baggage. He's now playing with the kind of form we saw from him in 2007/2008 pre-injury, and good luck to him.

I agree with that Coxy, but isn't that also something that the coaches should be able to address, where a player has confidence issues?

Oh definitely. Given the Broncos have a resident sports psychologist, it's disappointing they couldn't overcome his issues.

Whether they were trying to or not I can't comment. If they weren't, it's negligence on their part. If they were, but it just wasn't happening, that's life.

I think his confidence was destroyed by a bad left side defence which hung him out to dry so many times, he got to a point where he had NFI and no confidence in those around him the rest is history.

Good luck to him, I hope he has blinders for the rest of the year.
