The call was that bad, I thought it deserved it's own thread.

Has there ever been a worst call against the Broncos in their rich history? I don't think I've ever seen a more blatant wrong call against any team. It was highly suspicious and if the Broncos had have lost, I don't think we would have ever heard the end of it. If the Cowboys can make all that noise about 7 tackles, imagine the noise Broncos fans would have made over that.

Ridiculous.

The referees have to make a call here and stand down Cummins for the rest of the year. He shouldn't have any part in the finals series after that call.
 
There's never been a worse one against us and one of the worst sin binnings in the history of the code.

Fucking terrible decision, and Cummins knew it but still sin binned him.

I'm not sure on the rules, but can't the ref change his mind?

Yes they can but it's very rare.

The only time I remember it happening was in Origin II 2001. Freddy got into an argument with the referee, ref decided he was right and gave NSW the ball.

Would like to get some verification over what happened there. It's been a long while since I've seen that incident.
 
Not all decisions are reversible though. I'm pretty sure a sin bin is one of them...
 
That call was straight up garbage and was just unacceptable and disgraceful. It's just incredible that a pro 'referee' can make such a bullshit call forgetting a rule that even my little cousins know which as a result ruins the game for everybody and almost loses a team the game. FTR I can't recall such a shit decision against the Broncos as bad as that, the Roosters preliminary final of 2002 is always the game that comes to mind when bad referees and Broncos come in.

SACK CUMMINGS FOR THAT FUCKING SHIT call that almost lost us the game. Mum and Dad always get up me for having tirades against referees in both codes but tonight is a good example of why I criticise them so badly. They are just so useless and amateur they are ruining it for everyone.

Sorry admins for the swearing I'm just so pissed off about even though we won.

Was the pretense of the binning for talking back or for a professional foul?seemed to me the ref made the decision before Gillette even said anything.

Cummins already signalled 10 before Gillett had a word which prompted Reed to reflect what every Broncos fan was thinking.

The scary part about all this is that Cummins was so highly revered by Archer that he was appointed the Assistant Referee for Origin II. If he's coming up with calls like this, it just goes to show how bad the situation is.

I replied with pretty much what you said but I wasn't 100% sure.
 
I've fired off a pretty heated email to the NRL requesting contact details for Tony Archer or any other person responsible for the refs.

It was a pretty detailed report of some of the many stuff ups this year. How they happened, why they got it wrong, when the calls were made, why Cummins should be sacked etc..

If I can get the details of Archer, I will be sending my report and a copy of the fucking rule book to the fucking clown and I'll see if he responds or not.

However, I doubt NRL would give those contact details to me.

It's probably a waste of time, but **** it. I'm still pissed off and I need to vent..

Well I've been to bed and woken up so the red must has fallen from the eyes a little. I want to say three things 1) the call was a shocker 2) Cummins ought to be sacked (not stood down, straight up sacked) and 3) it's a shame that the players accepted Cummins' apology because I don't think there are any Broncos fans who think that his apology is worth jack shit. Personally, I'd have told him to stuff his apology, they are just words...the only meaningful apology he could give would be quitting as a ref. It's also a shame that Griffin didn't shred him at the press conference...he should have walked in, written and cheque out for 10k and then let fly and his presser should have ended with 'the NRL ought to be listening because if we get screwed next week they can assume that on the following Monday they'll be getting sued for the lost income we would have made had we made the finals, we are sick of being on the wrong end of clangers'
 
From the still shot in the above posts it seems as though the entire team was onside when Marshall took the quick tap and the ref was looking that way so it begs the question....just who did he think he was penalising ?
 
It's a possibility Cummins got Gillett and McCullough mixed up. McCullough was one of the players offside when Marshall took the quick tap.

They both wear the same color boots and have a similar build. Perhaps he thought that was Gillett.

Apparently, Cummins sent a representative of the refs up to Griffin to apologize. The gutless **** couldn't do it himself.

It could have cost us our season: Griffin - NRL.com

Yes, of course they can and bloody well should more often. Cummins mistake would have been very quickly forgotten and changing his mind would have barely raised a whisper. The video referee should have asked him to clarify the basis for the decision and over ruled if appropriate . No one has a problem with the wrong decision being corrected. This absolutely highlights why coaches( or on field captains for that matter ) should have one challenge per half. This travesty will be remembered but a reversal would have been forgotten within minutes. Only one person is infallible and that's my Mum excepting when she makes mistakes....never happens apparently !!!

People are always telling me to stop giving it to the refs too.

I'm still pissed off about it, sleep has changed nothing.

Cummins needs to be sacked.

For a decision that bad there are only two possibilities.

A) either he was cheating. I don't like calling the ref cheats but in this situation I think it is a genuine possibility.

B) he is so incompetent that he doesn't understand the most basic rules. I mean for Christ sake there was a kid that looked to be about 8 sitting next that turned to his father saying how can he be offside if they have run that far.

Ben Cummins. When 8 year olds from 100 meters away have a better grasp on the rules, it's time to pack it in son.
 
This whole quick-tap rule is a shambles !!!

Most of the players don't know when they're allowed to do it, and quite frankly the refs aren't capable of officiating it.
