Thoughts on Random Players

BP has passed this onto me so I'm going to continue the trend

Nathan Merritt

Matt Moylan

Michael Gordon

Glenn Lazarus

Brett Finch

Nathan Merritt - Great finisher, although not quite the complete package you want from a winger. Probably acheived all he should of in the game, compared to his ability.

Matt Moylan - Thought he was yet just another one of the hordes of up and coming NSW players that get over rated before they lace on a boot. Have been actually surprised. He looks ok in the class that he's running against.

Michael Gordon - Never got it. Always got rave reviews from the students of the game, i just didn't see it.

Glenn Lazarus - One of the all time great bookends. Came at a turning point in Brisbane's history and played a large part in making us what we are as a club today. Still ...that said, I never liked the ****. I found him arrogant and smug and carried just a bit too much of that NSW stench for my liking.

Brett Finch - was better than a lot gave him credit for. I would have gladly swapped him for Peter Wallace a couple years back.

Nathan Merritt - Was a consistent performer for Souths and a loyal clubman for them. Was really just a finisher that lacked the strength and ability do the hard work which was the main reason why he was always overlooked for rep. Got his token game through Fergusons stupidity and played a shocker and finally proved me and others right that he wasn't up to rep level. Will give him credit as there were a few seasons where he was up there as some of the best wingers. Didn't really think to much of him as a player as most of his tries were just tries any decent winger would be expected to score.

Matt Moylan - This guy has really showed some stuff since coming into first grade and is proof of the excellent development at Penrith and the strength of their junior base. Would like to see him play Origin next year if he continues his strong form. Star of the future with limitless potential.

Michael Gordon - Underrated player that has had his career cruelled by injuries but has managed to make a good fight out of it. I honestly believe if he wasn't injured all the time during 2011-2012 I he would've played more than just the 1 origin as he performed quite well in his game from memory, was also unlucky not to be picked last year. Great strength and tackle breaking ability.

Glenn Lazarus - One of the greatest players to play the game and one of the most respected. Champion player who did his clubs, state and country proud. Every Broncos fan should never say a bad word about him as our dominance of the 90's wouldn't have began if he didn't turn up to give us some muscle.

Brett Finch - Was a serviceable player at best but I didn't rate him that highy. Would've never played origin if it wasn't for injuries. Not much of a media personality either.

Nathan Merritt - solid performing club player who was involved with a lot of very poor South Sydney teams. Probably a bit unlucky that Souths success started to come at the end of his career where he started to not be able to match the players around him. It's unfair in a way he will be remembered mostly for his poor Origin.

Matt Moylan - i kept waiting for him to hit a rough patch in 2014 but it never really happened which showed what i think is very special about hi, his high consistency. Has the potential to be a very very good player over the next 5-7 years, and i will be very curious to see how long Penrith resist the temptation to try him out in the no.6. A very likeable bloke as well, comes across very humble and not at all like a dickhead.

Michael Gordon - was a gun for Penrith in his first stint at fullback putting out Jarrod Hayne like stats for a while but as others have mentioned injuries have done him no favours. He also did not look out of place in the Origin arena but he will not get another chance. I think he hit his straps a bit too late in his career with not enough time to get over the injuries and come back the same player. Very smart move by Cleary/Gould to move him on as imo he has been a bit of a dud for the Sharks.

Glenn Lazarus - one of Brisbanes best recruits ever. Easily the top prop in the game in the early to mid 1990's. Performed at all rep levels of the game. Was devestated when we let him go to the Storm but even though he helped the Storm win their first premiership, we well and truly got the best years out of him.

Brett Finch - a favorite player for fans to have a crack at, not quite Mitchell Pearce level but pretty close. Always looked like he was having a sook on the field that didnt help. In the end he was probably just an above average half, could have some very good games but lacked consistency of the better players in his position. Didn't do one thing especially well, just a solid all rounder.

Nathan Merritt - The same as Kevin Gordon, a solid winger that did the job, but that's all he could do. He was never anything special, though.

Matt Moylan - One of the best young talents in the game. He reminds me of a young Darren Lockyer with the way he carries himself on the field and the way he plays. Panthers have got themselves a good one and I hope he is as successful as he possibly can be.

Michael Gordon - I don't get the hype from a lot of people in the Rugby League circle, he is very overrated. There was a time he was good, but the injuries have ruined him and he hasn't been anything close to the same since. I doubt he ever will be.

Glenn Lazarus - In the top 3 for the best props I have ever seen. He was an absolute beast. He always ran hard and tackled hard. He was very hard to bring down, constantly running over the top of defenders.

Brett Finch - No one would even remember him if he didn't kick that field goal for NSW. He was an average half that had some good moments but he was never able to live up to the potential that so many people in the Rugby League circle claimed he had. A bit like Mitchell Pearce, but not as good.

Next round

Ty Williams

Matt Bowen

Shaun Fensom

Ash Graham

Timanah Tahu

Ty Williams - He started off promising, and had that good patch of form in 2005 when he made the QLD side. Has been terrible ever since then though.

Matt Bowen - One of the most exciting players NRL has ever seen. He was always at least good, but I thought he really came into his own when he finally stopped making QLD sides starting in 07. Between 07 and most of the rest of his NRL career, I think he was one of the most valuable players in the comp.

Shaun Fensom - Pretty much the most underrated player in the comp...at least from the rep selectors POV. Him not making rep sides is kind of like our McGuire not making rep sides, a bit of a farce.

Ash Graham - An OK player. Despite being very handy in attack, I thought he was below average in defence. Probably why he never made rep sides.

Timana Tahu - One of the most awesome wingers when he was at Newcastle, developed that amazing combo with Matt Gidley. Was actually a great centre for a while after he left them for the Eels too. After a failure of a stint in Yawnion (where even almost any nuffy NRL convert can make the Australian side), he returned to the NRL and was pretty shit.

Ty Williams - Was wondering what happened to him a while back before I found out he was playing in the QLD cup. He was a very good and speedy winger at his best and was up there with the best for a couple of years. I've got the 2004 Cowboys season highlights and he was scoring some great tries. I can still remember that beauty he scored against Manly in 2005. He didn't perform in origin which probably affected his confidence. Good player in his day

Matt Bowen - One of the most entertaining and likable players I've ever seen. Was a weapon in attack but I thought he was a bit fragile defensively which stopped him from playing as much rep footy as he was entitled to.

Shaun Fensom - Can't believe this guy has never been picked for Origin or even made city country which is just baffling to say the least. Makes at least 50 tackles a week and 10 hit ups a week. He is on Laurie Daleys radar and probably will get picked at some point.

Ash Graham - Was a very good winger at his best and could fill in at fullback quite well but was a fragile player defensively with some poor reads in defense. I thought he was very unlucky not to play Origin in 2012 considering the shithouse form Boyd was in. A Queensland version of Nathan Merritt I thought.

Timanah Tahu - Was an awesome dynamic player before he left to union (which he was dissapointing in) and looked off key when he returned which soured his reputation a bit and got unpopular with some after he walked out on teammates in Origin. Very good in his day.
