THREE Broncos have withdrawn from the Kangaroos train-on squad today with post-season surgery imminent.

Explains a bit the form drop by Gillo in the second half of the season. Hodgo and Copley also scheduled for surgeries.

Dale Copley - Shoulder
Matt Gillett - Shoulder
Justin Hodges - Knee

All require surgery and will miss the 2014 Four Nations.

Three Broncos Withdraw From Four Nations - Broncos

Will be interesting to hear if any other players are booked for surgery and how limited their pre-season will be.

I wouldn't read too much into this. This sounds like Bennett's doing.

Gillett would've been long odds to play anyway.

He's been busted for a while now

Not surprising. I think all 3 would be struggling to make the squad as has been said above. That still means that Thaiday & Parker are in the extended squad, right? And Glenn & Hoff for NZ?

Also Hunt and McGuire.

Gillett should have had the surgery three weeks ago after the storm game
He was a passenger for the Cowboys game

I really hope that explains Gillett's form post-origin, because it was bog average.

Bet they wouldn't have withdrawn if it were Origin coming up.

I remember during WBs first term at the Broncos he said publicly that he had learned the lesson about using players who were less than a hundred percent. I know that we all know you would play someone who was very close to a hundred percent right and of course WB would too. What I think he meant was someone like Gillett who in reality was nowhere near a hundred percent fit. I think it would have been stupid for Griffin to play Gillett and so it proved. I'd rather a fit player with slightly less ability over an injured superstar, not that I ever thought Gillett was one. We lost the Origin this year because we had an injured rusty superstar play instead of a super fit, ready made replacement who definitely could have been the extra 1% that would have gotten us home for 9 straight.
