Can't really tell from that, but Thurston wasn't looking at the ref when he fell over. Either way, it would be a joke for him to be suspended for that.
This is a better video. Seems thurston had plenty of time to not run into him.. makes me a bit concerned. Although i dont believe its worthy of 2 weeks
It's a rort, I've lost count of the amount of players I've seen physically SHOVE or PUSH a ref. As you say, Thurston did none of that. Simply ran straight into him whilst mainting his normal running action.
In fact, watch it on the angle from behind. Keep an eye on the ball carrier and on Thurston, and imagine he's looking direct at the ball carrier (Mateo). Trace the angle and the first moment he'd see the referee would be a fraction before he hits him. No time to react.
I reckon it'd just take a lawyer and a human movements expert or even optometrist to explain field of vision etc and show Thurston couldn't have seen the referee in time to change direction.
If he gets done for that it is a joke. The refs can't disappear but he changes direction about 3 or four times and ends up stopping in JT's running line. JT is chasing and can't stop and well probably didn't see him until the last moment as Coxy said.
Edit:
IMO this is no different to William Zillman hitting the ref in Round 1.
