I have nothing against Turps, he tried his guts out, but he was at best a sideways step on McCullough. Just another tackling bot at the end of the day, and we've had more than enough of that @ hooker the past 10 years.

All the best, mate.

As I often say to my cats, big stretch!

I would have thought the "Broncos gun" would have had his own thread started......

Should we boo....or cheer?

Where is the ‘Turpin Is God’ Brigade now?
Solid player and with creative halves around him he is a good player to have in your team. However we really struggled the last 2 years with him at dummy half offering nothing in attack.
Injury probably cost him his spot, but it was probably eventually going to happen anyway.
In defence of those guys....our last few years were so dire, that he was one of the few shining lights even if he was only solid. Also, attack wasn't our problem, we were never going to outscore our opponents regardless of how good he was when we were leaking 40 or 50 points every 2nd week.

Latest Cobbo rumour (Badel, Meyn):

* Nike (current sponsor) and Asics (Broncos supplier) contesting sponsorship. Nike tipped to prevail (ongoing loyalty).
* Some club has allegedly offered him $4.5M over 5 years to play fullback.
* Broncos still in negotiations to extend to 2024/2025.
* He's happy at Broncos and would stay for less than other offers
* Wants to stay close to his family in Cherbourg, so Broncos have advantage home ground.

He's be stupid to not take 4.5m, that's set up for life money, NRL careers are short.

I'd believe loyalty if there's 100k or 200k a year, not 2.5m difference.

It's most likely media horse shit as usual.

So some club has offered a kid $900k per year for 5 years to play a position he's not played at NRL level?
That's either a gee up, or a classic Bulldogs move.

I don't really understand why these rumours are getting around now, and it wasn't mentioned in B&M's piece, but Selwyn is tied down for another season yet. He's not even on the market.

Note wording used in the article body, as distinct from the headline:

"One club has discussed signing Cobbo to a five-year contract worth $900,000 a season."
Discussing isn't the same as tabling a formal offer. So I'm treating this as beer talk.

Next, it mentions this is "based on Cobbo moving from wing to fullback."

And finally, the amount thrown up of $4.5M works out to $900k a year, but that doesn't mean he gets $900k per year. If we're to take it seriously, it will be tiered. So what would Selwyn be worth two years from now? $700k doesn't seem unreasonable, then tier it from there until you get to top dollar for the Kangaroo fullback in 6 years time. Figure in inflation, and it's not such an unreasonable guestimate. Albeit it at the top end of what you'd project him to be worth.

I'm not saying it's a legit story - it's a rumour - but it's not out of the realms of feasible.

Wasnt it mentioned that the $900k a year would be associated for when he transitions to fullback.

So in that sense he's getting whatever salary for a couple years but by the end he's getting $900k as a fullback.

It's all well out of context anyway, because what we're hearing is that Cobbo is going to upgrade and extend, but the extension is 1-2yr... so in 6 years time ('23 under contract + this 5yr fairyland dobbobux contract) he might be on that or more with the broncos anyway.

Does anyone else think there could be a good chance that Jack Hetherington could end up at the Broncos next year if Payne Haas does get released? It creates salary cap room and the lure of getting to play with his brother could possibly getting him on unders as well.

Personally I'd prefer not to sign another forward and use the money to upgrade guys like TMM and Cobbo but I just can't help but feel like it may happen. Hopefully I'm wrong.

Jack Hethrington isn't related to Kobe.

Zac Hethrington (also at Bulldogs) is Kobe's brother

Jack is another TPJ. Hard pass.
