Proposal to change the game as we know it

the funny thing is how they talk about stopping player fatigue........but over the last few seasons theyve been trying to bring in more rules to keep players playing MORE football per match, ie. changing from unlimited interchange to limited, and then further reducing the amount of interchanges per team. so what is it, do they want players playing less or do they want them playing more?

for those that didnt fully understand the 60 minute games, that would ONLY be for games in February and March. after that it goes back to 80 minutes.

i COMPLETELY agree with the full home/away season, that is something that NEEDS to be changed. i dont agree with 30 rounds though, they need to drop some teams and get that down to low-mid 20s.

Need to get down to 12 teams and have a 22 round season.

Cronulla, Souths, Manly, Roosters: you are the weakest links, good bye!

I'm going regret this but Souths should stay.
Now that they've been privatised they are no longer an embarrassment and are actually the only Sydney club last year to turn a profit. The other 3 goodbye Charlie :)

Well we need to get rid of 4 teams. Cronulla, Manly, Roosters all agreed, but who else? Wests Tigers? Too crucial up against GWS. Penrith? Too crucial an area. Parramatta? Maybe, they're sandwiched in with Penrith, Tigers and Bulldogs.

Bulldogs? Nobody except the lebs would miss them. too far?

haha, maybe too far for Tahu.

How useful are Canberra to the comp?

I don't know if getting rid of the Roosters would be such a good idea.

They're one of the more richer, well run clubs. I think if you got rid of some of the other, poorly run Sydney teams, their supporter base would definitely increase.

Also, if they enforce a 5 game rest rule then the games should just be 80 minutes, the same as now.

80 minutes * 24 games = 1920 minutes.
80 minutes * 25 games = 2000 minutes.

It works out an extra 80 minutes, big deal.

I'd say fairly important in that the ACT Brumbies are direct competitors, and the AFL send several games a year to be played in Canberra.

My view would be that the Roosters and Souths are far too close to eachother. You could have one or the other, but not both.

Souths traditionally have more support, though they aren't good at showing it. That said though, Souths play their games at ANZ Crapstadium now so it's not such an issue in terms of proximity.

No doubt though greater western sydney has far too many clubs - Penrith, Parramatta, Wests Tigers, Bulldogs...

Parrammatta have too many bandwagoner supporters who are good for filling staduims in big matches... I love watching West Tigers play they are very exciting. Bulldogs are the most popular club in Sydney so they can't go either, Penrith have a very good junior base which needs remain. NZ are too important because they bring the game to another country and QLD teams speak for themselves.

It's a tough one, Roosters and Cronulla can definitely get fucked, Manly as well. The other option to get rid of is the druggos, sorry I mean Knights.

Can't lose Newcastle. That's incanity (o hai Rock).

Bulldogs most popular club in Sydney? How? St George are the most popular Sydney club by FAR.

Yeah, getting rid of Newcastle would be utter madness.

I can tell you now, this city is rugby league crazy. To take away the Knights would be one of the stupidest decisions the NRL could make.

14 teams would be easier to organise IMO.. Get rid of the Sharks and merge Roosters/Rabbits. Move Bulldogs, West Tigers or Parra to Central Coast..

Fair enough, you would know.

I think culling two teams would be the best way to go, Cronulla and Roosters or Manly good bye.
Place a Central coast team and Perth team instead of them. Would definitely help the TV deal.

I hate all of the ideas in that article.

Honestly, BroncoMatt came up with the perfect format a couple years back, and then Gordie came up with the same idea and put it in the Courier Mail this year. It was: (and Matt correct me if I have made any mistakes)

1) 4-week Pre-season Comp
2) 15 Round Telstra Premiership, with 4 weeks of Finals (each team plays each other once, and for example if we play against the Cowboys at Suncorp this year, next year we play them at Dairy Farmers, and so on and so forth)
3) 1 x City-Country (played as the only game of the week, I know most here hate it but let's face it, it's not going anywhere)
4) 3 x Origins (played as the only game of the week)
5) 1 x Australia-New Zealand Test Match (played as the only game of the week)

The game will lose too much money with that format IMO. Not enough games and too much weekends with very little footy.

I think he had an idea to combat that, just can't remember what it is. [icon_lol1. I will wait for him to explain.

I am definetly up for Origin and Tests being on there own weekends but we still need more than 15 rounds IMO, 20 rounds would be enough. Not sure if the pre season comp would work but I am not against it..
