Proposal to change the game as we know it

personally i think the NRL *on the field* has been getting worse and worse over the last few years, mainly because of the salary cap.

I'm not saying the on-field product is perfect but the facts are in the last few years despite all the off-field crap, overall game attendances are up; TV ratings are up; club membership are up; merchandise sales are up - all pointers to the on-field product being pretty damn good.

It's the administration (including looking at the salary cap) and all the other off-field stuff that needs to be fixed/improved before they even think about changing the on field game.

I'm sick of hearing about this so-called "player fatigue."

I work in a job that would be considered higher stress than most jobs, and you know what I'm forced to do to counter that? Take 10 consecutive work days off each year (with a total of 4 weeks leave).

These guys have it easier than school or uni students with the amount of time they have off.

Let me work for 80 minutes a week. Read up on markets for another...8 hours(?) Then give me October to February off. See how much I complain.

Try just October off. Preseason is November till Feb, with a week at Xmas, New year.

Sure it's not 9-5, but if it was easy everyone would be doing it.

And the changes this guy wants are stupid. 60minute games? 30 games a year? Just leave it as is!

Also, I would like to see divisions a la the American sports. Not too sure how they would divide teams up, I would do it on a rotational basis, 4 divisions play everyone in your division twice everyone else once, then finals series. Then to decide the following years pools, the top 4 teams from the finals are split into pools A, B, C, D. The other 12 clubs depending on their win/loss record are divided into 3 groups of 4. One team from each of these groups is designated a division at random.

I probbaly havn'et worded it well but I think it would work.

I like what your saying Jester, probably need a few more teams to have divisions IMO. All problems the game has will be easier to solve if the game had more money.

based on the way they finish

1
5
9
13

2
6
10
14

3
7
11
15

4
8
12
16

Something like that.
Or:
Lottery pool A
1
2
3
4

Lottery pool b
5
6
7
8

C
9
10
11
12

D
13
14
15
16

one team from each pool is in a division. More teams would be ideal but I think it is a good idea.

as i understand it the ladder at the end of the season is split up into two pools (based on the final positions) and you play everyone in your pool once and everyone in the other pool twice (or the opposite way around) the following year
