Yeah. I don't know what Bruno and co were playing at. Were they trying to show Hunt "we have faith in you" by not hedging their bets with those guys? Were they "being nice" to those guys for their careers? Seriously, if they had played for the Broncos this year with the form they've shown their new clubs they'd have NO trouble finding other clubs...

I just find the whole situation beyond laughable.

I would rather see those ex-Broncos players at the Dogs win it than our ex-coach at the Dragons win it.

I'll add to that -

It's not like the players were in bad form. Kemp was signed early and we were not sure (fair enough BUT even from that Manly game you could tell he looked the goods.) Ennis and Hannant though? Especially Ennis? I mean he was killing it. I agree with Coxy - it's not like they were going to have trouble finding other clubs. Furthermore, as a club you have to look at realistic chances of the title - 08 was one obviously. 09 should have been as well and those players should have been kept is my view.

Club might be thinking slightly ahread but personally I don't see the need to when you CAN actually compete for a title!!!

Sorry to say this but for Locky to take us to another title with the team he has now or will probably have before he retires... I'll say this - IF he can do it somehow... seriously he would need more than just his skill and the bounce of the ball. He'll need some form of miracle by the football Gods.

I'm fuming now because in my humble opinion - we should have had another shot with the team of 08 - or at least realistically formed a team that was going to... we didn't need to 'rebuild' or go for a raw team. That's my view.

I know we had a backline to win it but look what injuries can do. You can't discount injuries - you need to be able to cover them.

Serious? Personally it sickens me to see the Dogs do so well with our ex players but thats me.
I'm the opposite - I'd like to see the Dragons win and I think it will be great to see WB do it. It will just confirm his stance in the game imo.
I'm not saying WB should have stayed - (one more year IMO) I just wished he stayed for those players we signed that wanted to play under WB. Sims, Clinton and Wallace esp. Would have been gret for their game imo. I'd almost feel sorry for Sims if he wasnt so shite. He left the dragons to play under WB but then WB went to dragons after a year. ooft. Tough luck.

Can't count Hannant IMO. He wanted a massive upgrade which just wouldn't have fit, Hunt or no Hunt.

I agree with gUt on this one. I couldn't stand Bennett winning it for St George. Would love to see Hannant, Eastwood, Stagg get a win.

Actually, how about the form we were showing in the latter of 08? WB himself said it was a premiership lost - he normally doesn't say things like that.

As much as it hurt, I wonder why we were so nervous in that melbourne game from about the 50minute mark onwards... I mean the last 20 mins of a game is Broncos' territory, we own that shite. Just shows how different the Broncos HAVE become IMO.

In the end we probably didn't deserve to win that game via crucial and nervous errors on the night from everyone across the park - but take away that game and we had some pretty damn good performance didn't we?

Looking back - the team on paper... it was as good as it gets in the modern game IMO. Everyone was in relative form as well. Hmmmmm.....

Yes the form was much better at end of 2008, true. As for what happened in that semi, well, I won't heap all the blame on it, but a little incident at a nightclub a week before had an impact on the mentality of the players.

I remember thinking on the night that some of the players were trying too hard, especially guys like Lockyer. He was forcing passes that weren't necessary. I think the pressure was multifaceted - Bennett leaving, so many players leaving, plus all the off field dramas and wanting to make a statement about the solidarity of the club - in the end it got over the top of the Broncos and they capitulated when it counted.

So while stopping short of blaming K, Sam and Darius for the loss of last year's premiership, that did not help one little bit.

All a moot point though IMO. Manly would've flogged us in the GF.

I agree with that. I think we would have got Cronulla the week after, but unless there was another lift in our performance I can't see how we would have beaten Manly. I don't think we would have got beaten 40-0 though, now this year's team, possibly 80-0.

I think we should sign brisbane boy Johnathan Thurston. Who as I'm told can play 5/8th as well as being the best centre in the game. It would be a huge signing!

but we do we get the 700k+ a year we would need to sign him...

WTF?

We did chase Thurston before he joined the Cowboys.

Wouldn't surprise me in the least if we came in with an offer.

Johnny is also off to Rugby if the rumours can be believed. He is the big gun Eddie was suggesting would be the latest defector. Maybe I heard incorrectly - he may have said defecator.

we HAVE to go after thurston. he is the only possible replacement for a retired lockyer.

Nup. He'd be overpaid like folau.

For 700k no thanks. For What ever Lockyers current wage is hell yeah!

I love the idea of thurston playing for us, letting hunt go and playing a team like this would be a good chance for 2010 and 2011,

1.Hoffman
2. Copley
3. Michaels (he should be pretty confident defending with JT)
4. Hodges
5. Falaou
6. Lockyer
7. Thurston
8. Kenny
9. McCullough
10. Clinton
11. Thiaday
12. Te'o
13. Parker

14. Gorrell
15. McGuire
16. Sims
17. Glenn

Even put Winterstein in for Copley and move copley to the centres if he bulks up a bit over the offseason, although i havent seen enough of him to know if that a good idea or not.

I've said it before in other forums, I'd like to see (Ben) Hunt play on the bench next season and prepare him for the post-Lockyer era. I reckon with Wallace moving to 5/8 and Hunt to halfback, that would be a nice little combination. We really should be setting our sights on another forward.
