Recruitment

No, but going by what the reports said, I'd say it's unlikely that we did.
What you're forgetting is that Hunt is still under contract, meaning all the talks that have been going on for the last 6 months were *drum roll* being done while he's under contract. How were the Broncos to know that he would suddenly think he deserves to be paid more money than any other player in the NRL, Darren Lockyer and Johnathon Thurston included? I think its safe to say that no-one expected that to happen, and that if they had've known his asking price they would not have let go the other guys and would've told Hunt to look elsewhere.

Which would be evidence that they didn't work it out with Hunt when negotiations were in place with Ennis, Stagg, Eastwood etc???? If they had big plans for Karmichael they should've sat down and said "Rightio, we want to keep you here, but if we do we will lose a few good players, so if we were to offer you a contract right now what would be your asking price? $500k a season? No thanks mate, we'll keep Mick, David and Greg instead and at the same time get Israel as well".

Looks to me like they said "Rightio, we'll let all these players go and give Karmichael a good offer, he'll take it for sure"

Poor management.

He might not have wanted to discuss it. He might have indicated to them that he would be happy on a slight increase. Then he might have gone and asked for $200k more - We just don't know. To say it was poor management is very premature.

To piss off some very good players in the hope that one of your stars won't take million dollar offer from rival codes is poor management if you ask me.

This is funny because 12 months ago everyone on here - you included - would've been saying that Hunt is the first person we should re-sign and that we should give him whatever he wants.

Not sure I would've said that we should sign Hunt if it means we let go of Ennis, Stagg and Boyd (we were never going to match the Bulldogs' offer for Hannant whether we kept Hunt or not, and Eastwood is scared of Benton), especially because Hunt could have been replaced by Boyd without much transition at all.

I agree Boyd is looking like he could turn out to be a better fullback then KHUNT anyway....

Bruno doesn't care about football and therefore the fans. He appears to believe that there is an infinite number of youngsters out there who are willing to step up and have a go.
He doesn't give a rodent's buttocks about the fans and their expectations. It doesn't worry him to see the number of ex-broncos running around against us.
Bruno is not a competitor who wants to improve things. He is a tolerator who should be removed from any position of power. He balances books for can't add value.

As Jeba said, 'Poor management' by an extremely poor operator.

How does he survive in the position?
For clarification, simply read the toll over the past 4 years.

Should we not have sat down with him at the time though? He doesn't have to be off contract before agreeing to new terms.
Do you know for a fact that we didn't?

LOLZ. If we did it'd be pretty surprising.

"So Karmichael, here's what we're thinking of offering you. How does that sit with you?"
"Choice bro" (he is a kiwi afterall).

3 months pass.

"So Karmichael, here's the offer."
"No thanks, bro".
"OK just si...huh WHA??????"

Exactly!

I don't think that is Hunt's fault by any margin though - things and circumstances change (among other things) ... that is a management fault NOT a player's fault in my point of view.

To even take this sort of management method is just wrong on all levels. Putting a player before a team? No thank you.

I think they are taking the right options ATM. Why target a so-so player again and have them turn into a Sims/Setu/Gorrell? Might as well develop the young talent and target a few big names next year or the year after.

I honestly believe we have enough to do well next year but Ivan really lets himself down with poor team selections.

Broncos are goneskies.

As the Eels have farted around since the early eighties, the Broncos will not win another premiership for 30 years (if the NRL survives that long).

God I hope we don't end up like the Reds.

What I want to know is how we are supposed to have no money left in the salary cap? Bulldogs signed Ennis, Hannant, Hodgson, Kimmorley and a few other blokes and already have Patten, Ryan, El Masri and yet they signed Steve Turner so they have room. Cronulla made a shitload of signings for next yr. Seriously what's going on? How are we losing players left right and centre but have no money left. Boyd, Stagg and Eastwood were supposed to be on our books for this yr so there would have to be around 400-500k on the salary cap for the year where did that go? Plus Hunt was offered 400k a season so wouldnt we at least have around 800k to spend?

Exactly I mean even Manly can afford to buy players and they probably have more "stars" than we do. Where the hell is the money going?

In fact, if you look at our roster for next year, I cannot believe that we don't have money to spend. I mean, Izzy, Hodges, Lockyer and Wallace would be on good money that's for sure - But who else is on decent dosh?? Clinton?

Kenny?

If we don't have any money in the cap left, then there's been some VERY poor recruiting and administration that's for sure.

Sir - I hope we haven't chucked an Eels... paying players overs... this leads to bad, bad results.
