Second Brisbane NRL Bid

Typical NSW centric ****, how does a Central Coast side help with the growth of the NRL??? It doesn't, sure they are well equipped to have a team but that doesn't mean it should happen.

I agree with Rocky, Central Coast should have it's own team. Kill the Roosters or the Sharks and get the Bears running up there.

I agree with a Central Coast side if 2 Sydney teams go to make it happen.

Central coast instead of Sharks, that's fair.

I don't get it...

The Brisbane metro area alone has over 3 million people with one footy club, of which a large percentage supports league.
Being generous, half of the league supporters support the Broncos, but the rest either hates the Broncos, or supports a different team, or both. These are the people to whom a second Brisbane team will appeal!

The Central Coast is wedged between Manly and Newcastle, and has nowhere near the same potential as another SEQ team, be it from a supporter base, sponsor or more importantly, OZTAM rating, allowing for another Qld team time slot in one of the biggest RL TV markets, which will definitely be of much higher value than a Central Coast spot.

Yes, it will dilute the players pool for the Broncos, but will at the same time hopefully allow for more Saturday or Sunday arvo games, bringing more people to the stadium.
If the second team is successful, it will create an enourmous derby rivalry, which can be only good for the game and Brisbane, who will have a RL game on show every weekend.

Does the Central Coast deserve a team? Probably. But make no mistake, it will just be a revival of the North Sydney Bears a few K's further up the highway.
With the saturation in Sydney, only after a couple of teams fold would it be realistic to see the Bears back in the NRL.

You can look only at your back yard, or you can look at genuinely expanding the borders of our game, so I would definitely look at Perth to join a SEQ team, and hopefully a second NZ team will come along in Wellington or Christchurch, maybe even PNG, before any more teams in NSW.

I can't see a png team ever working, would players really want to live at png???

On an NRL salary? You'd be king over there. And it's not like it's a punishment to live on a tropical island...

You'd also be target #1 for burglars, muggers, etc. High crime rate in PNG.

If you've ever been to PNG then you will understand why NRL players won't want to live there.

The team would have to be in the Port Moresby area, which isn't ideal for anyone with money.

If it were on the western side of PNG then maybe - but that's never going to happen.

I haven't been there, so I can't really opiniate, but I've been to worse places (Brasil and South Africa) when it comes to poverty vs. riches and related criminality, so I get the idea. Would depend on the individual I guess...

They would never be competitive and what a PITA for the players to have to fly over the borders every second week.

give PNG 2 home games in a row each time and the team that plays them their bye after.

Port Moreseby is ranked as one of the world's least liveable cities. GDP per capita is less than $2000. Not exactly a great candidate for an NRL side at the moment.

Doesn't seem a problem for the Warriors?
NZ is a lot easier to travel to and from.
Would PNG local players get visa to travel to Australia easily?

I don't know about the situation all that great, I'm no expert but I can't imagine PNG being a great candidate for an NRL team anytime in the next 10 years, they would probably have to be funded majorly by the NRL just to stay afloat.

So like most Sydney teams?

Personally i'm not a fan of the PNG bid ..... i'd rather see it stay onshore, preferrably in Perth.

A second team in Brisbane doesn't bother me either ..... i'm sure it wouldn't have that much of an impact on the Broncos :eyebrow:
