I don't think it was ever about whether or not he'd play fullback - I imagine there would have been tension over the Gagai situation and from reports there was a great deal of miscommunication between him and Hook where he didn't really know where he stood with the club or his future.

He's always been a fullback, but put simply, he's a good fullback in an era of great fullbacks. He can't measure up with the best so inevitably you look for other solutions and other spots for him.

Completely agree! Hoffman's style of play is somewhat of a different generation. He might of been a better overall fullback during the late 1990's and early 2000's. He just doesn't possess the ball playing qualities of what's required of a modern day fullback, and he hasn't been able to evolve his skills to address the parts of his game where he lacks. I don't know whether that can be put down to coaching, but it'll be interesting to see how he plays at fullback with a new coach, who will have fresh ideas and coaching methods.
 
The most incredible thing for me is that the Titans have James Roberts at the club and he is not an option for them at fullback when he is clearly the best option.
 
That's more of a reflection of where Roberts is at as a person than the Titans player management.
 
Left to become a full time fullback yet he can't get it when the competition is Will Zillman and the club is embroiled in a drugs scandal. Awesome career move he made his bed and now he has to lie in it.

Could be true but Roberts is the only strike weapon the Titans have. The more he gets the ball the better and fullback is where he would get the most ball.

But at the same time, you don't want to give a kid like him the keys to the castle just yet.

Have him play his second position, show he means business and then build the team around him.
 
Yeah that does makes sense. He is a bit of a loose type. Gee the Titans have a poor squad even with Taylor, Bird and Falloon not in the drug trouble. Neil Henry has one heck of a job on his hands.

Yeah I agree but that shows how bad of a position the Titans are in. He won their player of the season last year ffs. Just incredible.

Hoffman is apparently playing 5/8 right now. This should be entertaining television.

Can't even tell if Hoffman has been on field this half. For a 5/8 he's done nothing in attack.
