I can only compare what is available for comparison. Joe Burgess' sample in the NRL is too small to compare to anything, and regardless of the NRL being a step up from the ESL, Joe is faster and a better finisher than Maranta by a daylight margin, while Maranta may be more solid defensively. That's what I base my opinion on.

Actually I think it's the opposite. It's not based on expectation or speculation but the fact that the samples are taken from two completely different competitions. They're not comparable at all. Take soccer for example (Ew...). Who would you prefer at your club? An average player from the starting side of a top ESL side or an average player who is killing it for an A-League team?

Both those can be answered the same way...

You can't really compare the competitions, so you have to extrapolate the ability and qualities you see from each player, into the other competition, and speculate how he would go. All things compared, Burgess has it over Maranta imo!

Tomkins is a great example, and someone I predicted wouldn't deliver to expectations in the NRL, because he would in general never get the space here, that he did in the ESL, especially against weaker teams.

Let's not get confused, I am not saying Joe Burgess is a great winger, I am saying I would prefer him to Maranta... big fucking difference!
 
Joe Burgess is a player with potential. He is only 21. He came to the NRL too early. Should have waited another 2-3 years.

Nathan Brown came up with that comparison. I don't think anyone else had such high expectations of Eden, least of all Eden and the Broncos. He came over here to have a crack at the NRL and "improve his game".

Hopefully he has managed to do that despite his unfortunate NRL appearances. He's played well for Wynnum from the games I've watched and didn't have the errors in him in those games.
 
Typical Maranta performance tonight. Finished off a great try created by other people then bombed about 3 others with his Mr. Blunder feet.
 
I used to defend him a lot, but he has no place in the modern game. Can't work the ball out, can't finish...he's useless.
 
How the hell did he make it to first grade? Of all the thousands of potential wingers in Brisbane let alone qld we signed him up. How??

I think people are being a bit harsh on Joe Burgess.

He was a gun in England and i think he needs a little time in australia to prove himself

I think he is just about useless but he had an improved game last night.
