I'm 100% behind the club with that decision and it's definitely a good way to show the players, that if you train hard and play well we will reward you. Our club is travelling at a great trajectory to being a force to be feared in very near future.

Of course Riki was the original 'line in the sand' player to come out and nail his colours to the mast. In the club's very depths of despair it was Jordon who stood up, resigned, and declared he would stick with the club and help it out of the mess. It was that attitude that helped start our ball rolling again.

Like Ikin, I truly believe Riki will soon become a fan favourite. Sure he has lapses in his game, but some of the pluses he brings to the team far outweigh them. I will go as far as saying that Riki will reach (if not surpass) the brilliant work our Gillett produced.
 
Yeah, it's a funny one - if we were struggling in the second row department, you'd take Fifita back in a heartbeat.

But I think our second rowers are the spiritual leaders of our team. Capes for his high standards and Riki for his loyalty.

Meanwhile Fifita is lazy and talented - like the old Broncos.

It's an awesome insight into professional sport - hard work beats natural talent.. on paper - Lodge, TPJ, Fifita, Milford, Bird & Roberts should have been a very good team.... But they sucked
 
The other thing is, with Walters' playing style, we don't need a Fifita. The back-rowers aren't there to make tackle busts and metres, they are there to nail down the super difficult task of defending. In attack, they are scoring some very handy tries on the edge, but that is because we are strong in defence, holding the ball and building pressure. Having weapons on both sides is what is causing opposition defence to have problems, and they are either shifting too wide to cover for the outside backs (giving Capewell and Riki space), or covering tight on the forwards, leaving room for the backs. Which is how it should be.

The wingers and props are easily making the metres required for the team, we don't need 100+ metres out of our back rowers, so they are fresh for defence.

I would have Fifita back, but on the same wage as Riki and certainly not what Capes is getting.....which is not 700k.

If he was prepared to take that sort of pay cut, I think it shows an acknowledgement from the player that his attitude is in a better place and could consider bringing him off the bench for impact. 700k is ridiculous pay for an unreliable backrower regardless of how many tries he scores. Just goes to show how stupid the Titans were in locking him up on a multi year deal at more than a mil per season.

Personally I'd take Fifita back in a heartbeat but if Ikin/DD/Walters aren't keen on him, I'd happily back them. I've yet to see them make anything but good decisions so far so it'd be wrong to question their judgement.
 
I'd be keen to see Fifita back, but I just don't think we have room for him in the cap anymore.

We've potentially invested too much in role and support players as it is, so we can't just lash out for $700k second rower... his best position is one inside Staggs, who is one inside Cobbo... how much strike does a team actually need.

We need guys that can get the ball to these strike players.

We need to find spine players, supposedly that's going to be made up of juniors... so if that's the case we also need to preserve cap space to upgrade those guys in the future.

Even in second row we've got Capes for a couple more years and Riki is providing worth as a line running defensive edge player... Piakura is waiting for a shot, and further out is TC and Te Kura.

The advantage that Riki brings is probably his value... in his current form he's a solid reliable backrower that is NRL standard and we likely don't need to break the bank to keep. That's a bonus in a salary cap world.

I've read that Fifita is looking at a possible return and I wouldn't turn my back on him completely. But massive pay cut to his salary and alot more commitment to the club would be needed and I don't know if he could achieve that.
