Proposal to change the game as we know it

I would be happy enough to have preseason comp as the first 4 weeks of the competition but the concern seems to be that teams think it is unfair that some teams only play the good teams once and others play them twice.

If it was up to me, get the eff over it!!!!

And playing each team twice, no way. No way.

I thought we were over the fact that these highly paid, extremely fit and conditioned athletes can't deal with playing up to a whopping 30 odd games a season. The poor *****.

15 rounds? No way. Way too short.

And the Bulldogs have a bigger fan base then St George.

They live a hard life!!

Fatigue is a load of shit.
Make it 30 games, make it mandatory that clubs cut pre-season training by 5 weeks, no players will complain.

Everyone would rather have 5 more weeks of games than 5 more weeks of training.

Resting for 5 games is pointless anyway as every club will use injuries as these "rest" games.

If you cut the trials it won't having a 30 week home and away season won't make a difference. most clubs play 3 trial matches anyway

Well lets do it.
Players need to STFU AND HTFU!!

They whinge and moan all the fucking time and when a new innovative proposal is introduced which is by far a better format to increase revenue and ultimately the salary cap they say keep it the same all the while they whinge and say the NRL needs to find a way to increase payments...

I agree, i would play a league game every week of the year for the money I'm on now... some of these guys are on 10 times what i make

And if this goes ahead they could be on 20 times what you make! Even if the players don't agree do it anyway, it's no their choice. Cut trials and make a rule where clubs cannot begin pre-season training before a certain date to prevent burn out and implement it, whether they like it or not.

Leave it at 26 rounds but add a preseason cup and sell it as a separate comp.

Channel 7 outbids 9 for the Pre Season comp.
Channel 9 Holds onto the normal season.

Rep games need to be sold as a different comp again.

I cannot believe some of the ridiculous changes to our game that were proposed. Seriously through all the dramas and everything over the years - the one thing that has been solid is THE GAME on-field. The excellence of the on-field product has been the only thing that has stopped the sport from virtually disappearing into oblivion. The only thing in that article that I agree with are a full Home and Away Season - but even that I don't think is a 100% must.

personally i think the NRL *on the field* has been getting worse and worse over the last few years, mainly because of the salary cap.

Agree.

However, shortening the game and some of the other radical rule suggestions won't improve that.

the 60 minute games was only suggested for Feb/March though, when its still very hot.

personally i say ditch the trials, drop some teams, full home and away season of 22-24 rounds, top 5 finals system, origin on its own weekends, best of 3 test match series 2-3 weeks after the grand final.

Everyone pretty much agrees that the product is fantastic.
The basis of this proposal is to increase TV rights revenue to raise the salary cap and keep the cream in our game.

I'm not much of a marketing guru, but how do you achieve that if not by offering more product?

- A full home and away season is a must.
- Include the trial games in a shorter pre-season.
- Rep games should be stand alone, allowing for at least 5 days rest between any two games.
- 4x 20 minutes quarters is an option to be explored, probably allowing for and even faster and more explosive game.
- With the generously increased salary cap, the "player fatigue" excuse would disappear fairly quickly... [icon_wink

We would have more footy to watch! [icon_razz1
But the season memberships would get more explensive too... [icon_shady
