At this stage, yeah.

TMM has been solid, but we still win 5 in a row without him. He's still got a lot to work on and it's too early to say whether he would be become a good fullback. He's had 1 actual try assist, no tries, no linebreaks in 5 games. At this stage he's not really seen as our long term solution at fullback and I don't think he will become that so there isn't much point prioritizing him over players we do want to keep long term.
You don’t credit TMM at all for the massive and immediate improvement to our defence when he came into the team?

The thing about TMM that I appreciate the most is that he's quite secure at the back and a player of his quality chiming in on those sweeping plays. He would be a genuine 5/8 at most clubs I would suggest, as in first choice.

A case in point for TMM, watch the very last play of the game last week. He sprints from the scrum to get back to last line of defense and the ref calls it back. Remember the whistle for full time has just about blown and we are up by lots. The ref then packs the scrum again, and TMM sprints off to fullback again. Herbie then proceeds to intercept and we get some icing on the cake. Those sorts of repeat effort plays when the game is in the bag would be noticed and valued by teammates and coaching staff. I cannot imagine any version of Niu that we’ve seen until now doing that, he rarely seems to get out of first gear in defense unfortunately.

I really, really like the 1 year deal. Suits us perfectly I think. Minimal risk with losing other players, gives us that little bit more time to decide between him and others (a decision we will need to make given our backline developing into stars and the strong forward pack).

Also a HUGE vote of confidence in the club and coaching staff. Shows its place he wants to be (could have left for security and more money), and that he's confident in improving or maintaining his current level - you don't have that confidence in a poorly coached team...

I also think maybe this group of players truly believe they can achieve something we still can't even imagine.............

The bigger problem is what to do with Tesi Niu, who has another year on his contract. I know @theshed is a massive fan and this would break his heart, but I think we should be offering him to Wayne to make up for keeping Herbie.

Jesus, poor Herbie cops it on this forum. Can't pass. Has no friends. Doesn't celebrate tries enough. Doesn't know the words to the team song. No one can understand him.

I'm shocked he even wants to stay for one more year.
I heard he doesn't want to go to another team because it would mean having to try to make new friends and learn another song.

Here is actually a serious issue of Herbie playing fullback on the defensive side, would the other players actually understand his calls? This could be a legit problem.
It's probably why Kevvie keeps overlooking him for fullback and goal kicking duties. He has no idea Herbie even wants to play fullback or kick goals because he's never been able to understand him. Kevvie just politely nods and walks away anytime Herbie has anything to say. I think Cobbo would probably have the same issue at fullback too haha.

I'd personally drive him to either Redcliffe or the Gold Coast myself, for free. I'm not a monster, so I'd give him the choice. Since I'm so generous, I'd even take Turpin with me too. @theshed is welcome to join too.

Yes they both had their chances and shown us that neither have what it takes compared to what we have playing already. Dolphins would be a option to get them some support though I agree. Cobbo,Paix are miles ahead and the way of the future for our club.
